With “daring and visionary spirit”, to quote a Downbeat review from the year of this album’s release, master improvisers John Abercrombie, Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette forged a unique vision of trio interplay on their first joint effort under the Gateway moniker. The trio tackles Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette originals with a visionary idea of what three-way conversations in jazz could sound like. As The Observer remarked in an article of the time, “the telepathic ensemble playing and perfect execution make it difficult to believe that this music is almost completely improvised”. The players’ respectively unique instrumental signatures had already fully crystallised here, hinting at the music to come.

If you heard the John Coltrane Quartet live in the early-to-mid-1960s, you were at risk of having your entire understanding of performance rewired. This was a ground-shaking band, an almost physical being, bearing a promise that seemed to reach far beyond music.
On June 29TH, Impulse! released “Both Directions at Once: The Lost Album,” a full set of material recorded by the quartet on a single day in March 1963, at New Jersey's Rudy Van Gelder Studio; then stashed away and finally lost when Impulse threw away stored material on a clean-up.
Greatest Hits is the third compilation album by American singer Aretha Franklin. Released on September 9, 1971 on Atlantic Records, The compilation features three new recordings: "Spanish Harlem", "You're All I Need to Get By" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water". The album reached Billboard's Top 20 and eventually sold over 500,000 copies.
